  SELAM'S MISSION STATEMENT

Selam Foundation is a non-profit and non-political organization. SELAM was established in the year 2005 as "EDIR" and legally registered with Non-Profit organization (501-c(3)) in 2010 with the objective of Education and Social service through participation and sustainable integrated development. Over the past several years, it has made a significant contribution to the overall Social benefits and literary reduction effort through our community

Organizational Values and Principles:

  • To protect and preserve our religious heritage and bridge cultural gaps, and to make a lasting and positive impact in the lives of the association community members.

  • To improve and inspire its members in education settings in their native language.

  • To strengthen the capacity of our members to achieve their goals in their lives, and to build and maintain a supportive relationship with the personal, moral, ethical, good citizens, and professional communities in which we live and work.

SELAM'S OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE

Objectives: The primary objective of our organization is the care of our members in the community through dedicated services such as Islamic funeral, financial assistance, religious education, and many other services. 

 

Purposes: The primary purpose of Selam shall be to promote the instruction and practice of Islamic religion according to the traditions of Islam and to encourage peaceful communion in accordance with Islamic Principles and Ethio-American socio-cultural norms. 

Selam is dedicated to protect and preserve Ethio-American Muslims cultural and religious heritage, to strengthen the capacity of our members to achieve their goals in their lives and on behalf of their families in their traditional ways. Selam also will strive to pass these cultural and religious legacies to the next generation. 

 

Inshallah currently, we are working to have our own multi-purpose center. It will be a center for our community activities such as prayer, fully equipped Quran studying rooms, multipurpose hall, parking space, and kids playground.


The past several years, we are able to give services to the Ethiopian Muslim community in Virginia and beyond. Some of our accomplishments are the following

 

  • Teach hundreds of kids Qoran and Islamic studies.

  • Help the people in the community in case of serious health issues by raising funds.

  • Donate Money for members in case of death in the family.

  • Arrange Islamic burial and comfort families through community gathering during Deaths.

  • Weekly Halaqa program in the community center including broadcasting lives on social media like Facebook on every Saturday.

  • Friday, Jumma prayer and Khutba.

  • Remedan Iftar program for the community members

  • Sponsoring Big events like the Bader 2018 convention, inviting many scholars around the world. We also invited the prime minister of Ethiopia Dr, Abey Ahmed, on the convention to advance the Muslim cause in the country.

  • Summer camp for our kids teaching Quran and Islamic studies including several field trips.Youth programs.
